23 OCTOBER 2026
23 OCTOBER 2026
There are wonderful signs of summer all around us at Parklands! Our gardens are looking beautiful, adding splashes of colour to the school, and it seems that laughter is blooming just as happily.
Today was particularly colourful as we started the day with Bounds, with our House colours proudly on display across the school! There was a wonderful sense of House spirit and enthusiasm, and we look forward to sharing more about the day’s activities and highlights in next week’s blog.
A reminder for your calendar: Wednesday, 4 November, is a public holiday for National Elections.
We hope this wonderful energy carries us through the rest of the term, with plenty more moments of learning, laughter and House spirit along the way!
Today is also International Mole Day! Celebrated annually on 23 October, between 6:02 am and 6:02 pm, Mole Day honours Avogadro’s number, approximately (6.022 \times 10^{23}), a fundamental concept in chemistry. It is a wonderful reminder that curiosity can turn even the smallest scientific concept into something worth celebrating!

Absenteeism during Exams and Assessments
A complete assessment portfolio (SBA - school based assessment), including all November examinations, is required for promotion into the next grade.
A learner can not be permitted to write the final exam should the SBA component be incomplete.
Should a learner be absent for the final examination without a valid reason, the learner will not be promoted to the next grade. A valid reason in this context includes the following:
a) illness, supported by a valid medical certificate issued by a registered medical practitioner;
b) humanitarian reasons, which include the death of an immediate family member, supported by a death certificate;
c) the learner appearing in a court hearing, which must be supported by written evidence; or
d) any other reason as may be accepted as valid by the Head of the assessment body.
Note that extended holiday breaks and travel do not constitute a valid reason.

BUILDING MATHS CONFIDENCE
Our Grade 7 and 8 learners have been participating in additional Mathematics sessions as part of their preparation for the upcoming November examinations. These sessions provide learners with valuable opportunities to consolidate their understanding of key mathematical concepts, revise important topics and practise examination-style questions. With the guidance and support of our Mathematics educators, learners are encouraged to strengthen their problem-solving skills, develop effective examination techniques and approach challenging questions with greater confidence.
The sessions also allow learners to identify areas requiring further attention, ask questions and reinforce the foundations needed for continued success in Mathematics. As our learners prepare for their final examinations of the year, we are proud of the commitment they are showing towards their academic progress. Every question attempted, every problem solved and every concept mastered is another step towards mathematical confidence and success!
CREATING MAGIC
Our Grade 10 dance learners have been getting creative behind the scenes, making props for the Pre-Primary ballet! A lovely example of our learners reaching out, sharing their talents and helping create a little magic for our youngest performers.
MAIN GATE ACCESS:
The safety and security of our learners remain our highest priority. For this reason, access through the main entrance gate is permitted only to vehicles displaying a valid Parklands College access sticker or to visitors who have completed the required scanning and registration procedures.
Our security guards are simply carrying out their duties and ensuring that the necessary safety protocols are followed. We kindly ask for your understanding, patience and cooperation as we support them in maintaining a safe environment for everyone at the College. Thank you for helping us keep our learners safe.

Please note that Readers and Scribes for exams must be organised directly by the parents and an external qualified Reader and Scribe. The College is not responsible for sourcing Readers and Scribes nor any financial arrangements.
Please contact Michelle Holdsworth: 0827209970 if you are looking for a certified Reader/Scribe for the upcoming exams. Please ensure that all Readers and Scribes have the correct certification and please forward that certification to the College (sjscott@parklands.co.za) before exams start.
(All learners that make use of extra time or spelling accommodations, will still receive their accommodation stickers and will write in their class venue as per usual - this form is just for separate venue arrangements).
We are pleased to share that our digital Exam Portal has now been successfully rolled out across the College for formal examination sessions. The system has proven to be secure, accessible, and user-friendly, offering an effective way for learners to receive reading and scribing accommodations without the need for in-person support. We will be moving towards all learners making use of Exam Portal in our efforts to support their potential in a sustainable and efficient manner.
Learners who qualify for a reader and/or scribe are granted access to a secure online platform during examinations.
The portal reads the exam aloud at the learner’s preferred pace.
Learners may type their answers directly onto the platform or request a printed script, if needed.
It ensures fairness, independence, and consistency for all learners who require assistance.
Is recognised by the Education Department as being suitable for NSC Grade 12 exams.
There will be a fee of R150 per exam paper/session, regardless of the length or duration of the paper.
The Exam Portal will be available for examinations only and, once enrolled, learners will be able to make use of the system for all exams up until the end of Grade 12.
As we continue to adopt more inclusive and sustainable assessment practices, the Exam Portal provides a modern, affordable alternative to relying on human readers and scribes, especially during busy examination periods.
In addition, this approach encourages greater independence and self-sufficiency, which is an essential skill for life beyond the school environment, where physical readers and scribes may not always be available. Learners can become more confident using digital support tools that are increasingly used at tertiary level and in the workplace.
We encourage parents to consider this option as the most efficient support process going forward. If you would like to register your child for the Exam Portal, or if you have any questions, please contact Samantha Scott: sjscott@parklands.co.za.
Thank you for supporting our ongoing efforts to provide effective assessment accommodations for learners at the College.

Well done to all learners who have shown commitment to training and matches this quarter. Your effort, attitude, and consistency continue to set the standard for what Parklands sport represents. Stay committed - keep learning, keep striving, and remember to appreciate those who support your journey. Celebrate every bit of progress, big or small, because who you become through sport matters.

The U13A team won their match against Blouberg Ridge 6 - 4
The U13 A Softball team had another excellent win against Elkanah, winning 8 - 4
Our 2nd Team for softball drew their encounter against Melkbosstrand High School 8 - 8
Parklands College enjoyed an excellent afternoon at the relay competition, with eight high schools competing: Milnerton, Curro CC, Curro Sandown, Edgemead High, St Cyprian’s, Groote Schuur, Blouberg and Parklands.
Our teams achieved some impressive results:
U14 Girls: 4th place
U14 Boys: 3rd place
U15 Girls: 4th place
U15 Boys: 5th place
Girls’ Medley Relay: 2nd place
Boys’ Medley Relay: 3rd place
What makes these results particularly impressive is that our teams consisted of U13 and U14 learners competing against older athletes in the U14, U15 and U17 age groups. With limited training time, our athletes rose to the challenge, securing podium finishes in three events, including an excellent second place for the girls’ medley relay.
Congratulations to all our athletes on a fantastic effort and a performance to be proud of!

PARKLANDS COLLEGE 1st XI vs RONDEBOSCH BOYS’ HIGH SCHOOL 1st XI
RAIN T20 KNOCKOUT COMPETITION MATCH
FRIDAY 16 OCTOBER 2026
MATCH REPORT
PARKLANDS won the toss and chose to bowl first.
Batting first, RONDEBOSCH BOYS’ 1st XI scored 211/3 in 20 overs.
Batting second, PARKLANDS scored 87/5 in 20 overs.
RONDEBOSCH BOYS’ WON BY 124 RUNS
Fielding catches: Joshua Neil (2)
Player of the match: Joshua Neil
Rondebosch Boys' High School secured a 124-run victory over Parklands College at the RBHS Main Oval, but the Vikings delivered notable individual performances in this Rain T20 knockout competition match.
Winning the toss and electing to field, the Vikings made an early breakthrough when Blaine Fisher bowled Ethan Kloots for 9. However, Rondebosch took control through a dominant century from Luca Ghignone (101*). Ghignone's innings proved crucial, though he survived a major chance on 24 when a catch was dropped at mid-wicket. Sabelo Ntuli provided the standout bowling spell for the Vikings, claiming 2/34 in 3 overs by dismissing Eli Aufrichtig (35) and Schalk Fourie (5). Rondebosch posted a formidable total of 211/3 from their 20 overs.
In response, the Vikings got off to a steady start with a 47-run opening partnership between Joshua Neil and Bokamoso Lukhele from eight overs. Lukhele contributed a solid 19 off 25 balls before falling in the eighth over. Despite a middle-order collapse against disciplined Rondebosch bowling, Joshua anchored the innings brilliantly.
In a dramatic final over, Joshua was desperately trying to reach his half-century. Off the second-last ball, (with his score on 49) he was spared being dismissed by a run out in a gracious display of sportsmanship by Rondebosch bowler Matthew Brooks, who refrained from taking the bails as Joshua found himself stranded in the middle of the pitch as Mackenzie Newman decided not to go with Joshua’s desperate attempt at a second run. Gentlemanship aside, it was a sensible decision by Brooks as there would have been little point in bringing in a new batsman to take Joshua’s place at the non-striker’s end with one ball left in the innings. Joshua finished unbeaten on 49 off 54 balls (3x4) as the Vikings closed on 87/5.
This was a rare opportunity for Parklands to play against a team boasting a number of rising stars that made them the number one ranked 1st XI team in South Africa in 2025. From a learning perspective, it was the right decision after winning the toss to put the hosts in to bat. Perhaps the RBHS total would have been less daunting had Luca Ghignone been dismissed earlier (but we’ll never know, of course) and the Vikings may then have had more belief that they could score a stunning upset. Although ended significantly short of the target, the Vikings did well to ensure that they were able to provide good resistance and bat out their 20 overs.
Parklands College Player of the Match: Joshua Neil. Beyond holding the top order together with his top-scoring 49*, Joshua took two catches in the outfield and contributed three overs with the ball.
Four Parklands learners (Michael Enslin, Bokamoso Lukhele, Lunje Mlaza and Tristan Els) were selected for the Milnerton Cricket Club touring team that competed in the Knysna Schools of Cricket Festival in Rheenendal during the holidays.
Despite weather disruptions, the team adapted its schedule and played three matches, winning all three to finish as champions in their age group. Our boys contributed strongly with the bat, ball, in the field and behind the stumps.
The tour also showcased their initiative and team spirit. With less than four weeks to prepare, the boys raised funds through various initiatives and supported one another with equipment to ensure everyone could participate.
Congratulations to our four Parklands cricketers on an excellent tour and a performance to be proud of!
