6 NOVEMBER 2026
Dear Parents
As we enter the final stretch of the academic year, there is a real sense of focus across the campus. Our Grade 12s are already halfway through their Matric examinations - the finish line is in sight! Our other FET learners are also hard at work with their examinations, while our GET learners are wrapping up their academic lessons and looking forward to their Consolidation Day on 10 November. It is a busy time for everyone, with plenty of focus, determination and a little excitement as we begin to see the year drawing to a close.
We kindly ask families who have not yet completed their 2027 camp forms to please prioritise this over the weekend to ensure that all arrangements can be finalised in good time.
To all our staff members and families celebrating Diwali, may the Festival of Lights bring you and your loved ones joy, peace, happiness and prosperity.
The Grade 7 to 12 camps will take place in January 2027, providing learners with a valuable opportunity to strengthen grade connections and start the new academic year with a sense of belonging and excitement.
Please use the links below for all camp information.
Please note that the grades listed refer to the grade your child will be in during 2027.
The indemnity forms were due to be completed and submitted by Wednesday 4 November.

📑 Exam Study Guidelines
Grade 11 Grade 10 Grade 9 Grade 8 Grade 7
Absenteeism during Exams and Assessments
A complete assessment portfolio (SBA - school based assessment), including all November examinations, is required for promotion into the next grade.
A learner can not be permitted to write the final exam should the SBA component be incomplete.
Should a learner be absent for the final examination without a valid reason, the learner will not be promoted to the next grade. A valid reason in this context includes the following:
a) illness, supported by a valid medical certificate issued by a registered medical practitioner;
b) humanitarian reasons, which include the death of an immediate family member, supported by a death certificate;
c) the learner appearing in a court hearing, which must be supported by written evidence; or
d) any other reason as may be accepted as valid by the Head of the assessment body.
Note that extended holiday breaks and travel do not constitute a valid reason.
Executive Lunch
In keeping with tradition, our outgoing and incoming Executive Prefects joined the Directors for a special lunch.
It was a lovely opportunity to connect informally, share experiences, reflect on responsibilities and successes, and chat about plans for the year ahead.
As the voice of the learner body, our Executive Prefects play an important role in ensuring that learners' perspectives are heard and represented. The occasion served as a reminder that leadership is about continuity, setting an example and carrying forward the values and spirit of our school.
Grade 8 Conservation – A Journey of Learning and Discovery
A big thank you to all the educators who contributed their time, knowledge and creativity to make our Grade 8 Conservation project such a meaningful learning experience. Each contribution helped bring the project to life and gave our learners the opportunity to explore their learning in new and exciting ways.
We would also like to thank the parents who joined us for our Parent Playground. It was wonderful to welcome you into our learning spaces and give you the opportunity to see, first hand, the educational journey your child has been on.
Over approximately 15 weeks, our Grade 8 learners explored how technology can play a role in protecting endangered species and their ecosystems. Through an interdisciplinary, project based learning (PBL) experience, they connected subjects such as Life Sciences, Geography, Languages, Life Orientation, Robotics and Technology, creating, designing, researching and problem-solving along the way.
The Playground was about more than displaying finished projects, it was an opportunity to share the thinking, creativity, collaboration and learning that took place throughout the journey. Thank you for being part of it!
Ballet - RAD Examinations
Congratulations to our Ballet learners on successfully completing their RAD Ballet examinations! We are incredibly proud of your hard work, dedication and achievements. Well done!
Animation Spotlight
We are delighted to showcase this wonderful animation created by Chiara Saunders as part of our ‘Animation of the Week’ initiative. A fantastic display of creativity, imagination and artistic talent. Well done, Chiara!
Grade 7 Homeroom Tug of War!
There was plenty of energy, enthusiasm and laughter on the field as our Grade 7s went head-to-head in a fun homeroom tug-of-war competition! The learners gave it their all, cheered on their classmates and enjoyed a wonderful opportunity to build team spirit!
Grade 9's are Exam-Ready!
Our Grade 9 learners took part in an exam preparation and study skills session, focusing on practical ways to approach the upcoming examinations with confidence. They explored effective study strategies, the importance of being organised and prepared, and even practised breathing exercises to help manage stress and stay calm.
A taste of Asia in the Hospitality Kitchen
Our Grade 11 Hospitality Studies learners enjoyed a wonderful hands-on kitchen experience, preparing Asian-inspired seared yellowfin tuna served with sticky coconut rice. They had the opportunity to work with fresh ingredients and discover first-hand the difference that quality, fresh tuna makes to a dish.
A very special thank you to Mrs Bellinger, Kyle’s mother, for generously donating the fresh yellowfin tuna fillets and making this delicious learning experience possible. We appreciate your generosity!
A Picnic Breakfast to End the Year!
Our GET learners enjoyed a lovely morning wrapping up the year with their homeroom educators over a relaxed picnic breakfast. A wonderful way to bring the year to a close, share a few laughs and celebrate the friendships and connections built along the way.
GRADE 9 FOOD TECHNOLOGY
The Grade 9 Food Technology learners had very interesting visits to our local McDonalds as part of their research for this quarter's 'Healthy Fast Food Meal-Deal' project! In their exam they will be making wraps for the meal-deal. They will be making both the wrap and preparing the fillings, then presenting with a healthy drink on the side! I look forward to seeing the final results! Mrs L. Torbet

Congratulations to Joshua Neil, our Grade 11 learner and 1st XI cricket captain, on his selection as a non-travelling reserve for the Western Province U19 Cricket Team.
This is a tremendous achievement and a significant accolade, particularly given the depth of cricketing talent and highly competitive environment within Western Province cricket. Joshua's selection follows an outstanding season with both bat and ball for the College, as well as his attendance at several Western Province training camps throughout the year.
In seven innings, he scored 335 runs at an average of 67.00, including two centuries and a half-century. His highest score of 151 and impressive strike rate of 110.2 highlight his ability to make a significant impact with the bat. He has also contributed with the ball, taking five wickets in 30 overs, with best figures of 2/21 and an economy rate of 5.73.
Earning recognition at this level is no small feat, and Joshua's selection is a reflection of his performances and continued development as a cricketer.
We are incredibly proud of Joshua and look forward to following his continued progress.

PARKLANDS COLLEGE 1st XI vs CURRO DURBANVILLE 1st XI
SATURDAY 31 OCTOBER 2026
MATCH REPORT
CURRO DURBANVILLE won the toss and chose to bowl first.
Batting first, PARKLANDS 1st XI scored 287/10 in 47.1 overs.
Batting second, CURRO DURBANVILLE scored 267/10 in 38.5 overs.
PARKLANDS 1st XI WON BY 20 RUNS
Fielding catches: Mackenzie Newman (2), Ethan Randall, Sabelo Ntuli
Player of the match: Ethan Randall
Parklands College secured a 20-run victory over Curro Durbanville in a high-scoring thriller to end the first leg of the season in style.
Electing to bat, the Parklands (Vikings) laid a dominant foundation through a brilliant century by Ethan Randall. Ethan anchored the innings with a masterclass 129 off 100 balls, striking 12 fours and 4 sixes - a deserving way to end off his Parklands College 1st XI cricket career. He posted back-to-back century partnerships: first combining with Joshua Neil (40) for a 106-run opening stand, followed by a 107-run partnership with Bokamoso Lukhele (34). Lower-order contributions from Carl Scheffler (20) helped push the Vikings to a decent total of 287 all out in 47.1 overs. At 213/2, after 32 overs, it looked as if the Vikings would easily post a total of 350-plus. However, the departure of Ethan in the 36th over with the total on 238 (for the third wicket) sparked something of a collapse with the following batsmen only managing to add another 49 runs to take the total to 287.
Defending 287, the Vikings bowling attack faced strong resistance from Curro Durbanville's Jean Paul Smith, who smashed 90 off 50 balls, and Landseer Collen (53). However, the Vikings stayed disciplined and struck back at critical moments. Joshua Neil delivered an economical spell, taking 2/33 in 10 overs (including 2 maidens) while removing both Collen and Yaqeen Cassiem (36). Yaseen Salie chipped in with 3/64, while Blaine Fisher (2/47) and Adam Muller (2/31) took crucial wickets. It was a thrilling finish to the game as Curro needed 63 runs with 9 wickets down. Jean Paul Smith, with only one player left to support him, decided it was time to take the game by the scruff of the neck and smashed boundary after boundary, bringing them to within 20 before being bowled by a beaut of a ball from Blaine Fisher.
Had the big fellow managed to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat, it would have been the Vikings drowning in misery as they would surely have reflected on Smith having been dropped on 1, 28 and 79. But, as the scorecard shows, the Vikings managed to bowl out Curro Durbanville for 267 in 38.5 overs to seal a memorable victory. This was a fairy-tale send-off for our three matrics: Ethan Randall, Julian Gardiner and Liam Russell.
It was pleasing to see that the hard work done by coach Gary with the bowlers in the middle during the week had the desired effect of significantly reducing the number of wides conceded - only 16 in this match, compared to 55 in the match against Reddam Durbanville last week.
Parklands College Player of the Match: Ethan Randall. The star batter laid the foundation for the Vikings' win with an explosive, match-defining innings of 129 off 100 balls at a strike rate of 129.0. Behind the stumps, he also took a fabulous diving catch to his right to dismiss the dangerous Ryan Huesmann.
Ethan Randall (Grade 12) played his first match for the Parklands College U/19A Cricket team against Curro Durbanville on 4 April 2023, when he was in Grade 9. In that match, Curro Durbanville scored 372/9 in 50 overs, and Parklands replied with 122/10, being bowled out in the 30th over. On that day, Ethan batted at No. 5 and scored 2 runs before being dismissed by a catch. Curro Durbanville won the match by 250 runs.
Since then, match-ups between the two teams tended to be lopsided in favour of Curro Durbanville.
However, since 2025, Ethan was involved in three victories over Curro Durbanville, and on Saturday, 31 October, he was the Player of the Match, scoring 129 runs from 100 balls. Saturday's final fixture of the 2026 leg of the season was thus a fairytale ending to Ethan's amazing career as a Parklands U/19A cricketer, where he was the top scorer in a memorable victory over the old foe.
Parklands won the match by 20 runs.
Since his U/19A debut in April 2023, Ethan has played an incredible 42 matches for the first team, as well as a further five matches on the 2025 U/19 tour to Sri Lanka. Over the past few years, as he grew in stature, Ethan became the rock of the batting line-up. So many times, he showed resilience under pressure and entertained spectators with his ability as a batsman, wicket-keeper and fielder.
Unsurprisingly, he was nominated Player of the Match five times during 2026.
His overall record shows that he played a leading role in heralding a golden era for Parklands cricket, under the guidance of coach Gary Gilder. Since assuming the captaincy in January 2026, the U/19A team played fifteen matches, lost only four and won eleven, with a win percentage of 73%.
He will be sorely missed, but leaves behind a legacy of excellence for the younger players to live up to.
Farewell and thank you, Ethan Randall.
