Dear Parents and Learners
Another busy week at the College has ended with an exciting Culture Assembly.
It is with great pleasure that we report back on our learners' achievements in the mid-year examinations, our success in the UCT Mathematics Olympiad and the activities arranged for our visitors from Trinity School in Florida, USA.
On Monday we also celebrated the opening of our doors on 28 July 1998.
Visitors from Trinity Prep in Florida, United States of America
On 11 March 1980, Lorraine Roth opened the doors of Christopher Robin Pre-Primary School to the residents of Cape Town’s Atlantic Seaboard. Her experience in the field of early education brought about a well supported and respected establishment, which offered care and early learning to young children, aged from six months to six years.
By 1994 many families had moved to the new suburbs of Cape Town and parents wanted Christopher Robin to be more accessible to their new homes.
The search for a suitable location in one of the developing areas took three years.
The construction of Parklands College began in 1998, when Christopher Robin Pre-Primary School relocated to Parklands and subsequently to Sandown, bringing to the West Coast an educational institution of excellence.
The school was built in phases to accommodate growth in learner numbers, and to establish the Junior and Senior Preparatory Faculties in Parklands, and the Secondary Faculty in the new suburb of Sandown.
The College is presently the largest landowner in Parklands and Sandown with approximately 25 hectares of land shared between the campuses. Apart from learning spaces, a large portion of land has been dedicated to recreation and sporting activities. This provides a balance between the academic, cultural and sporting arenas.
Our principals and teachers are committed and dedicated specialists in their fields. They share our passion for education and value our vision and mission, thus creating a sense of trust between the learners, parents, educators and the College.
We believe that the best way to prepare our learners for their future is to provide a professional school environment with authentic learning opportunities, allowing them to learn by doing and innovating, to make their own decisions, and work together towards solving real world problems that impact a larger community. Reaching outwards, growing minds and building futures

Please contact Tania Fourie if you would like to buy or sell good quality second-hand uniforms. She is also the supplier of Froggy School shoes. Contact details: +27 83 631 7683 or tania@sportstudio.co.za
We would like to remind you that it is imperative for us to be able to contact you or a member of your family or a close friend in the case of an emergency. Kindly visit the Edana App and check the contact details in the fields provided. To ensure that the information is complete and correct, it is vital that the contact numbers are accessible at all times by the College.
This is a very important request, and we are asking you to comply immediately as a safety precaution.
Please select your profile, then "Contact Information" update, and "Emergency Contacts" and update accordingly. Please click on the link for step by step guidance.
Please use secondary@parklands.co.za if you are unsure about who to contact. Your mail will be directed to the correct person.

A huge congratulations to the Secondary HyperionBots for hosting a fantastic Season Scrimmage Final on Wednesday evening at the Secondary Campus. The event brought together 10 South African teams and our special guests from Trinity Prep in the USA.
The night was filled with cheering, strategy, alliance-building, new friendships, learning, laughter — and of course, a little bit of coding and robots too! Well done to the team for creating such a vibrant and welcoming space for connection and competition.
Wishing our incredible RoboSports teams the very best as they head into their Regional Competition this Saturday! The hard work, teamwork, and dedication you’ve shown in the lead-up to this moment have been truly inspiring. We’re proud of each and every one of you — go out there, have fun, and show what you're made of!
At Parklands College, we believe learning doesn’t stop when the bell rings. Some of the most meaningful growth happens outside the classroom through conversations, collaboration, creativity, and curiosity. That’s why we’re so excited about our Clubs and Societies programme.
If you take a walk around the campus during utility or after school, you’ll feel the energy. Whether it’s learners deep in strategy during a gaming tournament, sharing ideas in an Interact Club meeting, or debugging code in App Development, there’s a real sense of purpose and passion. These clubs are more than just activities; they're safe spaces for learners to explore who they are and what they love.
In Quarter 3, we have made slight changes to the Clubs and Societies Timetable, which is attached below. From wellness and creative arts to innovation and outreach, there’s something for everyone.
We look forward to seeing even more learners get involved this Quarter. It’s not about adding another item to a to-do list but it’s about belonging, leading, and growing.
Let the exploring continue.
The Grade 11s embarked on the annual Leadership camp on Friday, 25 July to Waterval Country Lodge in Tulbagh. It was a weekend of educator-led sessions, fun activities, seminars, team-building and Grade bonding. Grade Heads, Carel Steinman and Jessica Biermann were instrumental in guiding the learners in preparation for the looming Matric year as well as guiding learners with the motto and Grade war cry. Educators Samantha Scott, Carine Le Roux, Darryn Hunt, Christel Weigelt-Harvey, Joshua Wyngaard, Prinevin Vardan and Peter Bates held sessions on leadership, communication and well-being. We look forward to the next phase of the Grade 11 Leadership journey.
Every year we receive requests from learners driving themselves to school to park their vehicles on the school grounds. We will not allow that for the following very important and well-considered reasons:
Safety: Hundreds of younger learners are dropped and picked up in the parking lot daily and the danger of allowing an additional approximate 100 inexperienced drivers (by the second half of the year) onto the parking lot, is a risk too big to take.
Insurance: The school has public liability insurance for injuries due to school-related events. Driving a car is not a school-related event and will therefore not be covered by our insurance.
Necessity: There is close enough access to public transport (MyCiTi) for there to be no need for learners to drive themselves to school if their parents are unable to do so.
Unlicensed driving: Some parents allow their children to illegally drive vehicles to school. As learners arrive and leave during peak times, it is impossible for the security guards to check licences without causing massive congestion.
There are parking embayments in College Avenue for learners to park their vehicles and when that is full, there is ample parking space available at Checkers. The parking area on the East side of the gate is also available for parking. This can be accessed from Sandown Road.
To travel and explore different countries and cultures with your friends is an experience you carry with you for the rest of your life.
Parklands College is planning a Cultural Tour to Paris in September 2026 for our current Grade 5, 6 & 7 learners. (Grade 7 and 8 learners from the Secondary Faculty).
Should you be interested in your child participating in the tour, or require further information, please email Mme A Bailly at abailly@parklands.co.za. A truly memorable cultural experience awaits!
Kindly scan the QR code to reply if you are interested. This tour is going ahead, but we would love a few more learners to join!
This tour is for Parklands College learners only and they will be accompanied by our own staff members in addition to the tour guide.

Derby Day 2025: Parklands College invitation to Somerset College
This Tuesday, our executive prefects, Reuben Rietoff and Chanél Ritz (on behalf of Alexandra Bester), visited Somerset College to formally invite them to our upcoming Derby Day on 15-16 August. We were warmly welcomed by their Head of Sport, Head Prefects, and Sport Prefects. Juice and muffins were served in their boardroom, and shortly afterwards, we were ushered into their Chapel to deliver our invitation ahead of their Spirit Assembly (Big Brag).
Following our invitational address, an exchange of handshakes and photographs, we were treated to a brief tour of some of their facilities before heading back home. The welcome was gracious, the energy was high, and the sense of occasion was unmistakable.
While the visit was short, it set the tone for the upcoming weekend - a FULL Derby spread across two days, with around 40 fixtures being played, including the Senior Preparatory who join us on the Saturday. It's a sporting and cultural showcase that promises passion, competition, and school pride in full force.
We encourage players across all teams to rise to the occasion — not only to compete, but to represent. We expect full attendance at practices in the lead-up, and we trust that, with your support and encouragement, our learners will lean into the Derby spirit and take from the build-up all the good that sport has to offer: teamwork, challenge and the chance to be part of something bigger than themselves.

On Wednesday we competed in the Zonal Champs, held at Brackenfell High School. Michael Lumley has been a standout cross country captain this year. The support he demonstrates to his peers, not only while they're on the course but also in chaperoning our youngest athletes to the bus after an event, is admirable.
We are also incredibly proud of our athletes who have attended each of the events on the calendar.

U17: 2nd, Steffan Hillebrand

After winning the Western Cape Intermediate Equitation Championships, on her horse Martini Frangelica, Morgan Smith (Grade 12) was selected to represent the province at the SA Champs in Johannesburg over the holidays.
The competition in Gauteng is known for its depth and intensity, with large numbers entering each class. Equitation is especially demanding — riders first compete on their own horse and then must swap horses, riding an unfamiliar horse they've never sat on. This format puts true horsemanship to the test. It’s not about having the best horse — it’s about being able to handle any horse, showing control, connection, and confidence through both groundwork and jumping. It’s a real leveller, and it separates the skilled from the exceptional.
Morgan rose to the challenge, finishing 2nd overall — the top individual rider from the Western Cape. Her performance helped drive the team to a gold medal, with all four riders combining for the highest provincial score on the day.
Well done Morgan and Martini Frangelica, we're incredibly proud of you!
The Western Cape U15 rugby team achieved significant success at the 2025 South Africa Winter National School Sport Championships held in Durban.
Arcanjo Mwini, (Grade 9) was selected as part of the 23-player squad for the Western Cape U15 rugby team. His selection is noteworthy, with the team comprising talented players from across Western Province, SWD, and Boland.
An early injury during the tournament meant Arcanjo played in 2 out of the 6 games against the Eastern Cape and Limpopo. The team went unbeaten during the tournament and won the gold medal in both the boys’ and girls’ U15 rugby categories, cementing their reputation for sporting excellence at school level.
This victory contributed to Western Cape being crowned the overall champions of the event, which concluded in July 2025.
Arcanjo thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
Gabriella Fredericks (Grade 7) continues to impress in 2025 with a standout performance at the Grand Slam final of the Western Cape regionals. She and her duo partner took 1st place in the Under-13 Duo category, while Gabriella also placed 4th in her solo — a result that sees her qualify to represent the Western Cape at Nationals in Gauteng this October.
What makes this even more impressive is the timing. The previous three Dance Sport Club League fixtures, including the Cape Town Eisteddfod, all landed during her exam period. Gabriella kept her focus, showed discipline, and still delivered when it counted.
Well done Gabriella!
Tyler Fredericks (Grade 9) has made strong strides in his dance journey this year. In March, he was part of a collaborative group that placed 3rd at Global Dance Supreme, a high-level competition showcasing top street dance talent.
Over the June/July period, he performed at Cape Town’s Most Wanted at the Artscape and in the Dancing Against All Odds production — both demanding performances that speak to his commitment and presence on stage.
He made the decision not to participate in this year’s Dance Sport Club League in order to focus on his exam preparation.
Great effort Tyler!

Blaine Fisher (Grade 10) was selected for the WP U16 Action Cricket team earlier this year for the second consecutive year. The team competed in the 2025 Junior Inter-Provincial Tournament in Atterbury Pretoria from 2-7 July.
Out of 8 competing teams, the WP U16 team held a consistent top 3 spot throughout the entire tournament. While they came incredibly close to reaching the finals, they still finished strong by winning their third-place match and took home a well-deserved bronze medal!
Keep up the great effort Blaine.

3-School Band Collaboration Hits All the Right Notes!
This past Wednesday, we were thrilled to host an unforgettable musical collaboration between Trinity Prep, Parklands College, and South Peninsula High School.
The day was filled with energy, creativity, and connection as learners from all three schools came together for joint rehearsals leading up to a celebratory final-day concert. From shared sectionals to full band run-throughs, the rehearsal process was not just about tightening rhythms and refining tone—but also about building friendships and musical synergy.
Throughout the day, learners exchanged stories, laughed, and learned from each other, creating a vibrant atmosphere of camaraderie and musical growth. For many, this was a first experience performing in such a large, diverse ensemble—and they rose to the occasion with enthusiasm and professionalism.
The final concert was a fitting culmination of the day’s efforts—showcasing not only the technical abilities of the musicians but also the joy and unity that music can bring. Here's to many more inter-school music adventures!

Pets owned by personnel residing on campus for security purposes.
Almost on a daily basis we are asked to assist with finding lost cellphones. It has become an impossible task and we simply cannot expect staff to actively look for misplaced cellphones. We provide adequate facilities for the learners to lock their devices away.
If a learner misplaces or loses their cellphone, parents are required to report the missing device to the local police station.
Learners need to complete a report about the missing device at reception of the ICT desk in the event that it is handed in.
AirPods
We do not look for missing AirPods. Learners have been told that they should rather not bring AirPods to school, as they get lost easily.
Enjoy a great weekend.
