Dear Parents and Learners
Last weekend our Grade 10s enjoyed a fabulous function at Eensgezind and the newly elected prefects attended a planning camp at Ihlati Bush Camp. That concluded our learner events for the year and the FET learners now turn their focus to the final examinations. We wish them well in their preparations.
We urge parents to take note of the 2026 requirements as set out below.
We are delighted to inform you that the special braiding for our striped blazers has finally arrived. We are now ready to begin the process of adding this distinctive touch to every learner's blazer.
Please ensure that the blazer is clean and labelled with the learner's name and surname.
The braiding process will take a few weeks, after which the blazers will be returned to the College
Don’t miss this opportunity as it is a once-off service for our learners with striped blazers. After this there will be an additional cost to have the blazer braided. In the future, any blazers purchased from School and Leisure will include the braiding.
All blazers will be collected in the week of 7 November.
Only the striped blazer is permitted to be worn from 2026.

The Dance Committee who organised a splendid event!
On Friday, 24 October, our Grade 10s gathered at the beautiful Eensgezind function venue for an unforgettable evening of elegance, laughter, and celebration. This year’s theme, Masquerade, brought an air of mystery and magic to the night as learners arrived in stunning attire, complete with intricate masks and dazzling smiles.
Adding to the festive atmosphere, the teachers also embraced the theme, dressing up in elegant outfits and creative masks — a fun touch that made the evening even more special for everyone. The setting beside the picturesque farm dam created the perfect backdrop for photos and conversations as the sun set over the water.
The evening featured a delicious dinner that was enjoyed by all, and the Insta-print photobooth proved to be a huge hit — capturing countless joyful moments and giving everyone a keepsake from the night.
Behind the scenes, the success of this event was made possible by our incredible Grade 10 Dance Committee, whose dedication and creativity transformed every idea into reality. From designing the elegant invitations and personalised menus to creating the seating chart, name cards, and playlist of song requests — they handled it all with style and efficiency.
A very special mention goes to Alecea, who headed up the committee with exceptional leadership. Her outstanding organisational and creative skills ensured that every detail was perfectly executed. She truly was the heartbeat of the planning process, and her commitment did not go unnoticed.
The full committee — Alecea, Lesa, Madison (Coleman), Madison (Benjamin), Alexa-Rose, Logan (De Araujo), Nolwazi, and Sesona — can be incredibly proud of what they achieved. Their teamwork, enthusiasm, and hard work made the 2025 Grade 10 Masquerade Dance a night to remember.

The newly elected Prefects attended the Prefect training camp at Ihlati Bush Camp in Cape Farms last weekend. It involved a few seminars and training sessions hosted by staff, leadership sessions hosted by Smartbrain, meetings with portfolio liaisons and ex-Prefects as well as planning sessions for 2026. The Prefects gave a fantastic account of their plans for 2026. They are passionate with a deep sense of community and purpose and see collaboration as the key to future success. We look forward to an exciting year of Leadership.

We strive to provide nutritious meals and drinks to our learners at the College. We strongly prohibit the consumption of caffeinated canned drinks on our campus.
Health Concerns: Energy drinks contain high levels of caffeine, sugar, and other additives that may be detrimental to the health and well-being of children.
Impact on Learning: High stimulant content may negatively affect a learner's concentration and ability to focus in class, hindering their academic progress.
Behavioural Changes: Reports from schools indicate that energy drinks may alter children's behaviour, leading to concerns from many experts.
Our learners have been advised on the following:-
A learner can not use a locker that has not been allocated to him/her.
A locker that has been allocated to a learner needs to have a lock. This should be locked at all times. Lockers can be purchased at reception.
We can not be held liable for missing items if a learner is using a locker not allocated to him/her or a locker without a lock.
Every year, we receive requests from learners driving themselves to school to park their vehicles on the school grounds. We will not allow that for the following very important and well-considered reasons:
Safety: Hundreds of younger learners are dropped and picked up in the parking lot daily and the danger of allowing an additional approximate 100 inexperienced drivers (by the second half of the year) onto campus, is a risk too big to take.
Insurance: The school has public liability insurance for injuries due to school-related events. Driving a car is not a school-related event and will therefore not be covered by our insurance.
Necessity: There is close enough access to public transport (MyCiTi) for there to be no need for learners to drive themselves to school if their parents are unable to do so.
Unlicensed driving: Some parents allow their children to illegally drive vehicles to school. As learners arrive and leave during peak times, it is impossible for the security guards to check licences without causing massive congestion.
There are parking embayments in College Avenue for learners to park their vehicles and when that is full, there is ample parking space available at Checkers. The parking area on the East side of the gate is also available for parking. This can be accessed from Sandown Road.
The College prioritises academic/ tuition time. Failure to comply will ultimately compromise a learner's academic performance.
We ask for your cooperation in not arranging activities and appointments during school hours. Should disruption of the school day be beyond your control, e.g., appointments with a specialist, we ask that you inform the grade head timeously in order for us to make the necessary academic arrangements. There is no such thing as a "free" lesson. In the event of an educator being absent, a substitute educator is provided and work is set for that lesson.
Learners should be at school every day until at least the end of the academic day, including until after assembly on a Friday.
You are reminded to email ssteyn@parklands.co.za directly to obtain permission to miss assembly on a Friday.
Please note that the Learner Attendance Policy has been updated in the Parent & Learner Directory.
Please be reminded that all learners need to wear the new striped blazer from the start of 2026, with the obvious exception of those who wear Honours Blazers. To ensure timely delivery, we advise you to place your order with our uniform supplier, School and Leisure, early.
The Class of 2026 (Grade 11s of 2025) must submit their blazers to Reception on Monday, 3 November or Tuesday, 4 November for Matric braiding to be added. All blazers must be clean and clearly marked. The cost of the braiding will be billed to your account.
Please contact Tania Fourie if you would like to buy or sell good-quality second-hand uniforms. She is also the supplier of Froggy School shoes. Contact details: +27 83 631 7683 or tania@sportstudio.co.za
We would like to remind you that it is imperative for us to be able to contact you or a member of your family or a close friend in the case of an emergency. Kindly visit the Edana App and check the contact details in the fields provided. To ensure that the information is complete and correct, it is vital that the contact numbers are accessible at all times by the College.
This is a very important request, and we are asking you to comply immediately as a safety precaution.
Please select your profile, then "Contact Information" update, and "Emergency Contacts" and update accordingly. Please click on the link for step by step guidance.
Please use secondary@parklands.co.za if you are unsure about who to contact. Your mail will be directed to the correct person.
Please click on the tabs at the top of the Memo to access useful information: Calendars, Academic info and Assessment Calendars, Uniform requirements and Operational Information (including Parent&Learner Directory, EDANA app instructions and KARRI app guidelines for use at Kauai)
We have updated the Parent & Learner Directory on 7 August 2025 with a revised Learner Attendance Policy.
We will be sharing snippets from our Directory with learners in the daily notes, and those same snippets will be included in the weekly memo to parents under Operational Info.

BELLVILLE HIGH SCHOOL 1st XI vs PARKLANDS COLLEGE 1st XI
SATURDAY 25 OCTOBER 2025
MATCH REPORT
BELLVILLE won the toss and chose to bowl first.
Batting first, PARKLANDS scored 92/10 in 28.1 overs.
Batting second, BELLVILLE scored 94/8 in 27.5 overs.
BELLVILLE WON BY 2 WICKETS
Fielding catches: Ethan Randall, Liam Russell, Bryce Gilder
Man of the match: Bryce Gilder
Bellville won the toss and chose to bat first. The first wicket partnership was ended at the start of the 5th over, with the Vikings’ total on 15 runs. With Kyle Warrender sitting on 996 runs over the 2024/25 and 2025/26 seasons, there were expectations that he would cross the thousand-run mark by carrying on from where he left off last week having scored 117 at a strike rate of 128, but he was sent back to the hut with nothing to show for his walk to the crease and two balls faced. Thereafter, it was only Blaine Fisher’s 28 off 30 balls and the 6th wicket partnership of 37 that kept the Viking langskip in the battle and they were all out in the 28th over for a total of 92 runs.
After a short break, Bellville went in to bat, chasing a target of 93 for victory. Bearing in mind that when these two teams faced each other one year ago, Bellville won by 126 runs it looked as if the current match would be over by lunchtime. However, the visiting fans were pleasantly surprised as three wickets fell in the first three overs: two wickets for Bryce Gilder and one for Mackenzie Newman. Bryce struck again to have the home team reeling at 26/4 by the end of the 7th over. Kyle Warrender took a wicket in the 12th over and then there was another breakthrough in the 17th over when two wickets fell off the bowling of Joshua Neil, one of the dismissals being thanks to a run out by Bryce Gilder. Now, with the home team seven wickets down and still needing 33 runs for victory, it looked as if the Vikings had their foe on the ropes but the batsmen hung on for dear life to ensure that they could scratch around for runs and inch closer to the total. By the 26th over, Bellville were on 89 runs when Kyle provided a glimmer of hope to dismiss the in-form batsman on 23, aided by a catch taken by Liam Russell. With Bellville needing 4 runs to win and the Vikings needing two wickets it was a question of who would blink first; as the scorecard shows the Vikings were not able to deliver the knockout blow and it was a boundary by the Bellville #10 batsman that put an end to the contest in the 28th over for Bellville to claim the victory in a very close contest.
This was definitely a match that the Vikings could have won. The fate of winning or losing the match could be due to the difference in extras conceded: Bellville’s extras contributed only 15 to the Vikings’ total of 92 while the Vikings’ extras contributed 34 runs to the Bellville total. This is definitely something that the boys will have to think about.
Thank you to all of the parents who came to support the boys. Next week we will have our final fixture before the November exams start, thankfully it is a home match against Durbanville High School. The boys will be keen to do their best and give Kyle a fitting send-off in his last match for the Vikings.

Michael Enslin
Carl Scheffler
Carl Scheffler and Michael Enslin
Carl Scheffler (Grade 9) and Michael Enslin (Grade 8) had a memorable cricketing week, being invited to play for the WP Youth Invitational against the Devon Cricket Board on Monday, 27 October 2025, at Rondebosch Cricket Club in a 50-over match.
Both boys represented Parklands with pride and composure.
Carl impressed with a tidy bowling spell, taking one wicket from 3 overs with an economy of 2.7, and contributed the highest batting score of 13, building a solid partnership with Erich Vermeulen from Durbanville High.
Michael, the youngest in the squad at just 14, showed courage and determination at the crease, scoring 9 runs and helping steady the innings alongside Carl.
Despite the visitors proving too strong and winning by 38 runs, the boys’ performances and teamwork were outstanding. The day was an absolute pleasure, with lovely opponents, teammates, and parents, and offered invaluable experience against a tough group that included three national-level players.
Some of Parklands’ 1st team players will face another UK side on Friday afternoon for WPCC—possibly Harrow School, UK. Exciting times with these overseas tours!

Please note that for security reasons, no parents or visitors are allowed past the Admin building during the week without reporting to reception. We have instructed our learners and staff to ask anyone without a Visitor's Badge to report to reception.
Please note that the College does not allow animals, especially dogs, on campus, except in the following cases:
Officially registered guide or support dogs (with the necessary harness).
Pets owned by personnel residing on campus for security purposes.
Almost on a daily basis we are asked to assist with finding lost cellphones. It has become an impossible task and we simply cannot expect staff to actively look for misplaced cellphones. We provide adequate facilities for the learners to lock their devices away.
If a learner misplaces or loses their cellphone, parents are required to report the missing device to the local police station.
Learners need to complete a report about the missing device at reception of the ICT desk in the event that it is handed in.
AirPods
We do not look for missing AirPods. Learners have been told that they should rather not bring AirPods to school, as they get lost easily.
